Centre for Health and Technology hosted the Future Connected Health seminar organized in Oulu April 13 as part of the OuluHealth Ecosystem Days. The seminar program covered widely the path from connected health research into business.
Matti Sarén, Vice Rector, co-operation, University of Oulu is responsible for innovations and cooperation structures in multidisciplinary project activities and spoke about Connecting research and business in the University of Oulu. The role of research organizations as enablers of health business was also discussed by Eero Punkka, Head of Health Research, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
Vesa Kiviniemi, Principal Investigator, Functional Neuroimaging research group, University of Oulu presented research with commercialization potential with the title "Monitoring brain pulsations – A new goldmine?", Juhani Lahdenperä, CEO of Biotech Start-Up Management told how to successfully commercialize university research programs, and gave practical instructions to researchers aiming to found a start-up company on how to increase the likelihood of success. One way to ensure research projects’ practical need and commercial potential in early stage of research is through Proof of Concept projects. One of the ongoing OuluHealth PoC studies was presented by Jérome Thevenot, Post-Doctoral Fellow in the research unit of medical imaging, physics and technology at University of Oulu.
The seminar was closed with a panel concentrating on the business development and future hospitals.
