Around 100 fifth class medical students of the University of Oulu assembled to the Oulu University Hospital´s OYS TestLab testing environment on Tuesday, March 29th to test in practice digital health care solutions developed by approximately 25 companies. The event was historical in Finland as medical students´ e-health education was organized for the first time together with companies. The event was also recognized in national media.
“New solutions will change the work flow of physicians. There are already several digital solutions available for health care and new solutions are constantly being developed. Therefore it is important that education of health care professionals includes acquaintance and testing of different e-health solutions”, Annu Tertsunen, Chief Physician of Finnish Medical Association and preceptor of the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Oulu said.
“The education event was a great example of regional development and cooperation within the capacity building action of READi for Health”, Jarmo Pääkkönen, READi for Health Project Coordinator from Centre for Health and Technology, University of Oulu said. ”There´s an international need for promoting the collaboration of health care professionals and companies. Health care professionals have reported that they lack knowledge on e-health and e-health innovators are missing feedback from professionals.”
Both medical students and company representatives thought that the education event was successful. For companies with devices or solutions in the phase of development, testing and feedback provide knowledge about functionality and usability. Medical students, on the other hand, got round to testing solutions they will probably need in their work in the future.
