VTT Technical Research Center of Finland, University of the State of Amazonas in Brazil and University of Oulu organised a workshop on November 30th in Espoo, Finland to discuss opportunities for collaboration in deploying eHealth solutions in the Amazonas State. The Amazon region is a large and unique territory with a low population density and currently low offering of public health care services. To improve the quality and access to health care services in the Amazon region the Framework for Cooperation in eHealth between Finland and the Amazonas State in Brazil is to be established.
In addition to the organizers the Brazilian participants from the Regional Council of Medicine and the Council for Amazonas State Health Secretariats and several Finnish companies were involved in the discussions.
Jarmo Pääkkönen from Oulu was representing READi for Health, and presented advances of regional collaboration and eHealth ecosystems in READi for Health project.
“Developing the Amazonas eHealth requires establishing collaborative eHealth education program for the region. This is something that READi for Health project can collaborate within Capacity building action. We have acquired understanding about patient empowerment across ecosystems and we have experience also in the eHealth related exchange of information and skills between different stakeholders to support internationalization”, Jarmo Pääkkönen said.
The workshop established an agenda to build up a cooperative EU-LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) research, education and business framework for an eHealth enabled Primary Health Care strategy for Amazonas remote areas.
